As of my last update in September 2021, Kyambura Game Reserve is a protected wildlife reserve located in southwestern Uganda, near Queen Elizabeth National Park. The reserve is known for its diverse range of wildlife and its unique feature, the Kyambura Gorge, also referred to as the “Valley of Apes.”
Key features of Kyambura Game Reserve:
Wildlife: The reserve is home to a variety of wildlife, including elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, and a range of bird species. However, what makes Kyambura particularly special is the presence of a habituated community of chimpanzees that inhabit the Kyambura Gorge.
Kyambura Gorge: The gorge is a deep ravine that runs through the savanna, forming a lush and dense forested area. It is home to a population of wild chimpanzees, which have been habituated to human presence, allowing for guided chimpanzee tracking experiences.
Chimpanzee Tracking: One of the main attractions in Kyambura Game Reserve is the opportunity to go on guided chimpanzee tracking safaris. These experiences offer visitors a chance to observe and learn about the behavior of these remarkable primates in their natural habitat.
Biodiversity: Beyond chimpanzees, Kyambura Reserve hosts a wide range of plant and animal species, making it an ecologically diverse and significant conservation area.
Scenic Landscapes: The reserve boasts stunning landscapes, from savannas to the lush forested gorge, offering visitors a chance to immerse themselves in the beauty of the region.
Conservation Efforts: Kyambura Reserve plays an essential role in conservation efforts in Uganda. It helps protect vulnerable species and their habitats, contributing to the preservation of biodiversity in the area.
